We hope that the festive period brought our students and their families lots of fun and special moments and we wish you all a Happy New Year for 2013!
This term, although short at just 10 weeks, is packed full to the brim with dramatic action and fun filled drama exercises! Highlights of the term to come include prop work, scripts, improvisation and drama based games, all creating structured classes from our carefully designed curriculum.
Lower Primary students will develop their movement skills in a dance drama entitled ‘The Alley Cats’. Using slashing and gliding movements taught over the term they will be encouraged to use their bodies to create dramatic characters through mime. More complex ‘Scene Starters’ will also be used encouraging children to improvise and work in teams to create their own plays.
This term Upper Primary will practice and perform what is known in the Helen O’Grady world as ‘Verbal Dynamics’. This years ‘Verbal Dynamics’ is entitled ‘Cities’ and is a choral performance which will explore all the sounds, characters, emotions and sights you may find in some of our local towns and cities.
The Youth Theatre and Young Actors curriculum is jammed packed with exercises to stretch students’ performance skills and confidence. We will be studying several scripted pieces this term which will encourage students to use heightened emotion and show stereotypical traits through characterisation. We will also be looking at George Orwells ‘Animal Farm’ which will focus on power struggle and the transfer of power between characters.
Starting this term are our new classes in St Albans at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre. These will take place on Saturdays between 12pm and 3pm and will be taught by Amy. Please feel free to pass on if you have family or friends in the area who may be looking for a drama club for their children.
And finally don’t forget to keep your eye on the blog for news and updates and we will look forward to seeing you all in the coming weeks.
